FRC Robots

Team 1781 has been an active member of FIRST for close to two decades. Each competition we strive to assemble a robot that can not only participate in these events but also present our knowledge and skill in engineering. The design for each mechanism is decided through collaboration between all of our members. Although these robots are created to allow us to be adequate competitors to contend with, the main idea of the team is the building of people through the creation of robotics.

Charged Up was the FRC challenge created for the year 2023(Game rules linked above). Each alliance accumulates points by placing cones and cubes in their respective nodes on a grid. The higher the game piece is placed the higher it is in value. To score more points robots can dock and engage with the charging station. The more robots on the charging station during the end game period also increases the amount of points gained. Due to this challenge’s aspects, our team has developed a Dropbox to quickly acquire cones and cubes from a single substation. We are also able to collect cubes from the ground with ease to yield the most points. Our medium size robot is more than capable of fitting all of our alliance members with us at the charging station allowing us to boost our team in points.

Rapid React was the FIRST challenge created for the year 2022(Game rules linked above). Each alliance would score cargo into the upper or lower hub to score points. At the end of each match robots race to the hanger ascending to the various rungs. The higher the rung the more points added on. The Alliance with the highest combined points wins the match! Infinite Recharge was the FIRST challenge created for the year 2020(Game rules linked above). Each alliance would score power cells into various power points. At the end of each match robots race to the rendezvous point. The alliance then tries to activate the shield generator by hanging onto the bars located inside. The Alliance with the highest combined points wins the match! To learn more about our team’s Infinite Recharge robot click on the image to the left.

Deep Space was the FIRST challenge created for the year 2019(Game rules linked above). Each alliance has two rockets, cargo, and a habitat. The first 15 seconds of the game are autonomous and for the rest of the 2 minutes and 15 seconds of the game teams will have a human driver. Points are earned by loading cargo and panels onto the rockets but must be secured otherwise the cargo will fall out and not gain any points. The alliance with the most points at the end wins.

Power UP was the FIRST challenge created for the year 2018(Game rules linked above). Human players and their “video game characters” (robots) use power cubes to maintain control over switches and the scale. Teams earn 1 point per second when they have ownership of the scale and switches. Power cubes can be found along the fence near the scale and by the alliance portal. the first 15 seconds of the game are autonomous. During that time teams can earn 5 points by crossing the auto line.

SteamWorks was the FIRST challenge created for the year 2017(Game rules linked above). Human players and their robots, install gears to engage the rotors, climb aboard for lift-off, and collect fuel to build pressure.  Teams get points for the amount of steam pressure built, having all gears installed, and having robots attached to the airship. The alliance with the most points at the end wins the match.

Stronghold was the FIRST challenge created for the year 2016(Game rules linked above). Human players and their robots go on a quest to breach the other team’s defenses to weaken and capture the enemy tower. Teams make defenses to protect their tower. Points are scored for capturing strongholds, beaching defenses, and launching stones at the other tower. The alliance with the most points at the end wins.
